d. French Foxtrot
The French musical repertoire contains lots of beautiful, romantic Foxtrots. "J'attendrai", "La Mer" and "Nuages" come to mind and most of the works of the great Django Reinhardt were Foxtrots, fast and swinging or smooth and sensual.
When the French danced a Foxtrot, it really was essentially the same as an American or British Foxtrot, but with, perhaps, a little bit more closeness, a little bit more snuggle. For a detailed discussion of the Foxtrot, click here.
Here's Fox Trot in an upscale setting, in the evening - 1929.
And from the dawn of the Jazz Age, here's a jazzier and more down-market take on the Fox Trot.
