The Passing of Patri Pugliese
This from the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers:
It is with tremendous sadness that The Commonwealth Vintage Dancers announce the death of our esteemed co-director, Patri J. Pugliese, on Sunday, February 11, 2007. To say that he will be sorely missed is an understatement. As many of you know, Patri courageously battled cancer for most of the past year.
For almost 25 years, Patri generously shared his love and knowledge of historical dance with CVD, as well as the dance and reenacting communities at large. His classes have introduced hundreds of people to the joys of vintage dance. His expectations for excellence have made us all better dancers than we would have been otherwise.
Condolences can be sent to Barbara, Antonia and Julia Pugliese at:
39 Capen St.
Medford, MA 02155
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a 529 College Fund set up at Fidelity for Antonia and Julia's college education by sending a check payable to "Patri's Girls" to:

Or to a fund to assist dancers in furthering their historical dance education:

Comments
We had the great pleasure of meeting and working with the Pugliese family in 2005.
It was quickly apparent to us that Patri gave of his heart and soul in all his undertakings. He clearly cherished his work and his family, and had the good fortune of being able to intertwine the two.Certainly this model is a fine example for all to emulate.
Patri was a unique presence like no other, and will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Barbara and the girls; our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I just googled Patri in another context and found out about his passing. I am truly saddened. I taught with him at BU years ago and we were close, sharing interests in history of science and fencing, not to mention ragtime music and dance. One of my favorite memories is of him teaching early astronomy to his students: to illustrate the epicyclis motion of the planets in the Ptolemaic system, he would waltz with one of the girls!
My deepest condolences to all his family and friends.
