The Future (or lack thereof) of LAHA
For the better part of the last ten years, while I have been running LAHA and all it's activities (vintage dances, living histories etc.), I have had an arrangement with my employer to work 90% time. This has given me one day off every two weeks to attend to the all the details of these activities.
Alas, that is no longer the case. My employer has now put me on 100% time, which has actually translates to something more like 120% time. I no longer have the time and energy to do this--and while I think I have done a pretty good job of creating successful events, what I have not done is build an organization that has the depth to run itself.
2007 will be LAHA's final year, but fear not--the events and website you have come to rely on will continue.
Here's the plan:
Over the coming year, LAHA's three primary events: the Avalon Ball, the Jane Austen Evening and the Lanterman Ragtime Tea Dance will be spun off to other organizations.
The Avalon Ball will be taken over by the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles.
The Jane Austen Evening will be taken over by "The Jane Austen Evening Association".
The Lanterman Ragtime Tea Dance will be taken over by the Lanterman House Foundation.
I will coninue to run the website and mailing lists.
So, if all goes accordng to plan, our very popular events will continue much as they have, you will continue to be informed about local activities, but I will have my life back, and perhaps once that happens I might find other outlets for my energies.
Cheers,
Walter Nelson

I'm sorry to hear this, but thank you, Walter, for everything you have done. My husband and I have not been much involved, but it's evident how much work you have put into everything and we appreciate it!
