The AOL Saga Continues
If you are an AOL subscriber, you may have been wondering why you haven't been getting any "Upcoming Events" messages from the LAHA/SDI Mailing list lately.
It is not because we haven't been sending them. It is because we are being blocked by AOL.
We applied for their "White List" and were approved. However, we are still locked out because we have exceeded our permissible number of complaints. Complaints cannot exceed .02% of all AOL subscribers in a mailing. This means, with about 200 AOL subscribers on our list, one complaint puts us at 1000% over our allowance.
So, if any of your fellow AOL subscribers thinks that the best way to unsubscribe from a list is to click the "spam" button, all of you are then blocked from seeing any mailings from that source. We are certainly not the only list to which this has happened. If you are subscribed to the Art Deco Society list, that too would appear to have been blocked.
I am not sure what can be done about this, but it may be helpful for you as AOL subscribers to complain about this particular case, and about this rather ridiculous and ham-handed policy in general.
You should address your complaints to postmaster@aol.com
