Plans are being made to have our next vintage dance week take place in a true vintage location: the famous and fabulous Queen Mary in Long Beach Harbor. Rooms and classes will be on the Queen Mary, as well as the final night dinner/dance extravaganza. Two other cool vintage ballrooms in the Long Beach area are also in the works, for our fabulous, evening events. Don't miss this, our 4th dance week---each one has been one-of-a-kind, but this one will top them all!

Richard Powers and Joan Walton, our world class historic dance experts, are already 'on board' (so to speak) for this week. And as an added bonus, our event will go back-to-back with a fabulous historic swing dance weekend hosted by Joel Plys of 2PlySwing at the terrific Avalon Casino Ballroom on Catalina Island, June 4-7. That's two, yes, TWO vintage dance events together! Get right off the ferry from Catalina and check in to the Queen Mary. More details as available.

Our 10th Anniversary blow-out weekend workshop, April 25-27, with Joan Walton, of San Jose was truly history making. Two astonishing evening dance venues, one with a 4-course gourmet dinner included!

We celebrated 10 Years of historic ballroom dancing with the San Diego Vintage Dancers, as we pulled out the stops for our Weekend Workshop with the terrific Joan Walton, April 26-27. Joan has over 20 years experience in vintage dance, teaching all over the world. A professional dancer and choreographer, she's one of the best instructors in historic dance. Located now in San Jose, this was one of her rare appearances in Southern California. Starting Saturday, we had 8 hours (4 each day) of fabulous dance classes, all levels, featuring late 19th and early 20th Century dances, including Waltz, Charleston, Blues, Toddle, Tango, Java & One-Step--all the classics. Classes were held on professional dance floors at The Dance Place in Point Loma at the former NTC. Great Saturday lunch lecture on Men's vintage clothing by Walter Nelson.
Bonus class Friday night April 25 in Balboa Park.

Saurday night we had a 1920s-30s bistro evening featuring the French-inspired music of the Gordon Cole Quartet. Our venue for the evening dance was a knock-your-socks-off location of unbelievable uniqueness, the former Tablao Flamenco Restaurant (closed up for almost 20 years), just perfect to help us celebrate in the SDVD style.

Sunday evening was be a rapturous 4-course dinner & dance at the fabulous 1915 era Prado Ballroom in historic Balboa Park. The Prado serves some of the best food in a city known for excellent cuisine. Music was provided by the incredible 10 member Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra under the direction of Bruce Vermazen, playing authentic music of the ragtime era.

The San Diego Vintage Dancers proudly presented --Viennese Nights: A Ball-- on the grand dance floor of the Balboa Park Club in San Diego, Jan. 26 2008. We experienced the enchantment of a traditional 19th Century Ball, as we celebrated the music and dances of the Strauss family and ther contempories. The Grand Pacific Waltz Orchestra will provided LIVE music for Waltzes, Polkas, Schottisches and more! The evening included light refreshments. Mid-late 19th Century ball wear was in great abundance as always. We were honored to welcome the incomparable Richard Powers, Stanford University dance historian, as Master of Ceremonies for the evenings. A pre-ball dance workshop, was also taught by Mr. Powers at the Balboa Park Club, on the day of the Ball.

Mark your calendars NOW for our next fabulous Victorian Ball on January 31, 2009. Details in the fall of 2008.
