Would you like to add historical Jazz Age styling to your dancing?

Would you like your questions about the ball weekend answered?

Would you like to meet new dance partners for the Ball?

Join Walter Nelson for an afternoon of dance instruction, clips from old movies that show you how it was done back in the day; and a chance to mix with friends old and new.

The dance instruction will focus on the Jazz Age Foxtrot, with pointers for the Waltz, Tango and Rumba - we may even throw in a Conga line.

Comfortable Jazz Age-style attire is encouraged but in no way required.

Feel free to bring finger foods and beverages to share (no food preparation facilities on site).

On SUNDAY April 29, 2018, from 10am to 3pm, there will be a Spanish Colonial Mission era Living History camp on the grounds of Mission San Gabriel Arcangel, sponsored by the Soldados y Californios of SoCal reenactors group, in honor of the Juan Bautista de Anza Expedition and the National Parks Anza Trail that passes through Los Angeles. Interesting historical exhibits and activities for all ages are planned. The Anza Colonial Dancers under the direction of Mlle. Irene Ujda will host a Fandango with demonstrations and audience participation dances of New Spain.

CICADA CLUB DEBUT! The Mad Hat Hucksters founded by swing dancer Morgan Day in 2015. Originally starting out as a jam band that played traditional jazz tunes, this San Diego band evolved to find their sound more in the musical style of small combo jazz bands of the swing era, with solid four rhythms and tempos most dancers expect for dancing Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Shag. In November 2017, the band released their debut album, "Swing and Jazz Music for Dancing", available for download and streaming on Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon.
