August 2: Lecture-The Lydeckers-Special Effects Pioneers & Streamline Architecture

Please join the ADSLA and the American Cinematheque for a special presentation entitled "The Lydeckers: Special Effects Pioneers & Streamline Moderne Architecture". Howard Lydecker used his cinematic vision to design and build his own futuristic Streamline Moderne home in Studio City in 1939. Travel through worlds real and imagined with Lydecker House historian and TV News Producer Jason Burks who will introduce film clips and discuss how Lydecker's work influenced his home, which is now a Historic Monument. George Lydecker, nephew of Howard Lydecker and son of Theodore Lydecker will share his memories of the work of his father and uncle.

Starting in the 1930s, the Theodore and Howard Lydecker produced revolutionary special effects for nearly 400 movies and serials, including the 1942 WWII action picture Flying Tigers which uses not a single real fighter plane! They were the undisputed masters of the minatures in Hollywood and worked together closely during the entire production history of Republic Pictures were they had a great deal of creative freedom.

Tickets are $5 for members of ADSLA and American Cinematheque. For non-ADSLA or Cinematheque members, tickets are $10.00 general admission, seniors and students with ID are $8.00. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.fandango.com, or purchased on the day of the event at the door. Please bring your ADSLA membership card with you to the box office.

The Egyptian Theatre is located between Las Palmas and McCadden, just east of Highland Avenue, north of Selma Avenue. Metered and free street parking available near the theatre. $2 for four hours validated parking available at Hollywood & Highland. There are also pay parking lots on Las Palmas and Cherokee ranging in price fro $5 to $20.

Why not take the metro? The Egyptian is a very short walk east from the Hollywood & Highland METRO station.
